University of Southern California

The University of Southern California, popularly referred to as simply USC is one of the country’s oldest private educational institutions. It was founded in 1880 when Los Angeles lacked basic amenities like electricity and paved streets. Today, it is one of the largest private educational institutions in the country at present. USC has more than 20,000 students enrolled in its undergraduate programs. It has a ranking of 24 in the list of best universities across the country. USC is also one of the more expensive educational institutions with an average yearly tuition fee of more than $59000.

Multiple Campuses for Thousands of Students

USC has an urban setting with its main campus, called University Park Campus, located in downtown LA in an area known as the Arts and Education Corridor. USC has other campuses also in Sacramento and even Washington, D.C. Students have the freedom to choose one or more of nearly a thousand organizations operating inside the campus, from politics to sports and religious groups. The sports teams of USC are called USC Trojans, and they participate in the Pac-12 Conference. The football team of USC is regarded as one of the best at the university level.

USC has Produced Outstanding Personalities

There is no compulsion for undergraduate students to live on the campus of USC. However, the administration has several apartment buildings and residence halls, where nearly 40% of the students live. There are 22 graduate schools under USC and Dana and David Dornsife College of Letter, Arts, and Science. The number of graduate students studying in various law, engineering, medicine, estuation, and social work colleges of USC is greater than that of undergraduate students. Two of the most well-known USC schools are the School of Cinematic Arts and Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. Renowned film directors like George Lucas and Judd Apatow have graduated from these schools of USC. Some scenes of movies like Forest Gump and The Graduate have been shot on the campus of USC. Noble Laureate physicist Murray Gell-Mann who discovered particles called Quarks is one of the 5 Noble Laureates produced by USC. Movie legends Clint Eastwood, John Wayne, and the first man to walk on the moon, Neil Armstrong, are all USC graduates.

The University of Southern California has a solid reputation across the world as a high-quality research-oriented educational institution. The university that started with just 53 students in 1880 has more than 4000 faculty members teaching students across many different campuses. With a median starting salary of $60,600 per annum for the alumnus, it is not surprising to find so many students applying for admission into USC.

Amazing Life on the Campus

The admission process of the University of Southern California is highly competitive, with the college administration selects only 13% of the students applying for admission. Life on the campus is classy and vibrant. Greek life is wonderful at USC, and students are notorious for organizing wild parties.
