Popularly known as SCU, Santa Clara University, is one of the oldest private educational institutions. It is certainly the oldest in the whole of California has been in operation for more than 165 years. It was founded in 1851 in an area called that is better known as Silicon Valley. In the beginning, it was an all-boys preparatory school, but within a few years, it started to offer college-level education to students. However, it was not until 1912 that SCU attained the position of a fully-fledged university. It took another 50 years for the SCU to become a coeducational university when female undergraduate students were admitted to the university.
